Social Media II: The Fediverse

Oh hey. I just wanted to post a thing about a compilation I put together.

I've had conversations with some friends fairly recently about the Fediverse, but could never really put into non-technical terms 'what' it is and how it works without also explaining 'why it is' and 'why it works'.

Instead, I decided to put a page together and just collect all the things that are need-to-know about it. If anyone really wants to know all the technical stuff about how your information is kept, you really don't have to look further than the design portion of the Wiki article. While searching around, I noticed there wasn't really a good, flat-list that I could come across. So this was made in hopes that it can be used as a gateway for others to find their niche on the Fediverse, and settle into whichever platform they pick (there's more than I could cover, so dig deep if you want on that one).

Quick Note: I've never been a political person but I do understand what happens in the world around me, regardless if I'm interacting with it or not sometimes. There has been a bit of scumminess going around in the mainstream lately, and I have noticed it as well.

With that being said: In all the crazy political elbow-breaking going on at the moment, it's now too easy with so much American money being thrown into the void for politicians to fake public support and sway public opinion. This isn't a conspiracy theory or some tin-foil hat thing, it's a real thing and we're going to find out how bad it is (was) in several years from now, I'm sure.

The Point relating to the Fediverse: This is important, because it has now caused many real journalists and actual news sources to migrate onto Fediverse platforms to be heard louder. The common news outlet has become such a slop of misinformation that much of the actual news is getting avalanched on. So like always, do your research and pick your sources wisely, and keep your politics to yourselves these days.
